WBro Kenneth Hinchliffe Anderson Celebrating 50 Years in Freemasonry

The Lodge of St Martins No.2320 held a 50th Personal Birthday celebration on Tuesday 4th April for WBro Kenneth Hinchliffe Anderson.  The Lodge members turned out in strength for this celebration and were well supported by the APGM WBro Peter Hewitt PSGD together with Rochdale District Officers led by Chairman WBro Peter Rhodes PProvJGW.
The celebration was conducted throughout by APGM WBro Peter G Hewitt PSGD.
WBro William Coward PProvAGSuprWks first read extracts from the minute book of 3rd January 1967.
A long-standing member of the Lodge, WBro Phillip Norbury PProDGDC, then presented a tribute. Phillip recorded that Kenneth had been born in Rochdale in 1929 and had attended the Rochdale Grammar School followed by Nottingham University where he gained his BA in 1952. After National Service, Kenneth started his teaching career at schools in Castleton and Norden and had been appointed as Deputy Head at Hollin County Secondary School in 1964. Further promotions took him to the position of Head Master at Langley Secondary School from which he retired in 1989.
Kenneth has always been a keen sportsman and played both Rugby and Tennis to a high level and represented the County at tennis. Other interests included the Curtain Theatre and he was very involved with Rochdale twin town visits.
WBro Hewitt then out lined some of the world events which occurred in 1967 being Kenneth’s year of initiation and concluded by giving an account of Kenneth’s Masonic career. In particular he made mention of the booklet Kenneth had written entitled St Martins Lodge – The First 100 Years . This booklet had been very well received and was produced to mark the centenary of the Lodge in 1989.
WBro Rhodes then read a letter of congratulation from the RWPGM Sir David Trippier and presented Bro Anderson with a 50 year lapel badge. Finally WBro Hewitt read and then presented Kenneth with a richly deserved illuminated Certificate.
