In the second of these papers the period of exile in Babylon is considered giving the background of the period between the destruction of King Solomon’s Temple and the return from exile and explains how some of those exiled rose to important positions and how the ancient traditions were maintained.

In the third and final part of these brief histories the period 536 BCE is considered and in particular the part played by Zerubbabel, Haggai and Joshua in restoring Jewish practice and custom and commencing the rebuilding of the Temple.
