Keith Wareing Celebrates 50 years in Freemasonry at Keep Lodge No. 6538

On Friday evening the 27th September, over 50 Brethren including a large District delegation headed by Assistant Provincial Grand Master WBro Alan Kirwilliam gathered at the Masonic Rooms in Clitheroe and Keep Lodge No. 6538 to celebrate 50 years in Freemasonry of WBro Keith Wareing.

Once the APGM had accepted the gavel and occupied the Master’s Chair WBro Kirwilliam requested that Keith be placed in the centre of the Lodge and asked the Lodge Secretary Les Timmins to read the minutes from the Lodge of Confidence No. 4295 from September 1969. The APGM then continued to recount some of the events taking place in that year. He concentrated on the technical achievements, including the moon landing before holding an impromptu ‘music from the movies’ quiz from some of the popular films from the year. WBro Kirwilliam presented WBro Wareing with his Illuminated Certificate which also carries with it the best wishes from the Provincial Grand Master, Sir David Trippier. WBro Wareing was then perambulated around the Lodge to the acclaim of the Brethren. Keith’s ceremony concluded with the presentation from District Chairman WBro Dave McGurty of Keith’s 50th lapel badge.

Before the APGM and the delegation retired, the Worshipful Master WBro Wilson had a pleasant duty to perform in presenting WBro Kirwilliam a cheque for £250 to the ELMC which was greatfully received.

The Festive Board was held across the road at the Swan and Royal Hotel with the usual excellent fayre and friendship to match. The Brethren were delighted, when due to the late hour, the APGM offered to give the short version of his response where he thanked the Brethren and commented on the buzz that he felt running through the room, he urged the Brethren to continue the enjoy their Masonry. He finished by saying he was looking forward to returning to Keep Lodge in the future.

The toast to WBro Wareing was given by WBro Fishwick who commented on their long relationship in not only Masonic terms but also in their respective families. Keith in his response thanked the Brethren and interspersed his reply with interesting Masonic facts that had interested him over the last 50 years.

A wonderful evening which reflected the warmth felt to a highly respected Freemason. We look forward to celebrating his 60th birthday in 2029!
