On Sunday September 10th, eight Brethren from around the district assembled at Great Harwood show ground to assist the staff of Child Action NW (CANW) at their annual pound day event. This year the venue had been changed from Oswaldtwistle Mills, and the timing moved later in the year from June to September. The volunteers were a little concerned at the weather forecast, and they weren’t wrong, as bands of heavy rain swept across the show ground right throughout the day. The Brethren were detailed to collect the entrance money and marshalling the car park areas, the weather did keep people away, but the Brethren were kept active with a slow but steady stream of visitors who all arrived warm and dry, and left looking like drowned rats!
The event had much to offer the visitors, with donkey rides, various stalls, vintage and classic cars and lots of activities taking place in the main show ground, all orchestrated by the team from 2BR.
Although the day was wet, the spirits weren’t dampened, and everyone seemed to have a good time, and lots of money was collected on the gate. We won’t know the full total raised until a later date, but whatever the final total, it all goes to a wonderful cause.
