Change of Meeting Date
Dispensations are required for any alternative meeting date to that specified in the Lodge or Chapter By-Laws and may be granted if the alternative date is not more than 28 days before or after the normal date of the Regular Meeting.

Change of Meeting Place
Dispensations are also required prior to any Regular Meeting which is to take place at an alternative venue to that specified in the Lodge or Chapter By-Laws.

Note that it is possible for a Dispensation to be granted to cover a change in both Meeting date and venue.

Emergency Meetings
In exceptional circumstances, normally associated with an unusually high Masonic work load in a Lodge, a Dispensation may be granted to hold an extra meeting.
(Craft: Rule 140; note that a Dispensation is NOT required for an emergency Convocation – see Chapter: Regulation 59)

Initiating, Passing, Raising or Exalting multiple candidates
Dispensations are required to confer any one degree on more than two candidates on the same day.

Unanticipated change in Treasurer
In the event of a Lodge or Chapter Treasurer being unable to discharge his duties (due to ill health, protracted absence or other special circumstances) "to the reasonable convenience of the Lodge", a Dispensation may be granted enabling the Lodge to elect a member to temporarily assume those duties.

However, a Dispensation is NOT required in the event of a "vacancy".

Eligibility for election as Master of the Lodge
If a Warden has not served in the office for one full year he is ineligible for election as Master of the Lodge without a Dispensation being granted.

Eligibility of the Lodge Master
A Dispensation is required for a Brother to:
-
simultaneously hold the office of Master in more than one Lodge;
-
continue as Master of the same Lodge for more than two years in succession.

Miscellaneous
Dispensations are also required to:
-
enable the manager or proprietor of the place at which a Lodge meets to hold any office in the Lodge;
  (Craft: Rule 117)

enable a Candidate less than 21 years of age to be Initiated;
  (Craft: Rule 157)
-
enable a Lodge to confer a degree on any Brother less than four weeks later than the previous degree was conferred on him;
 
  (Craft: Rule 172 – noting Rule 139 [d])

permit Brethren to wear Masonic regalia in public;
  (Craft: Rule 178)
-
enable a Lodge with less than five members to continue to meet.
  (Craft: Rule 188)
