Ken Davies, MBE, PProvSGW – Provincial Grand Charity Steward

It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed to the office of Provincial Grand Charity Steward in this Province of East Lancashire. Initiated into Freemasonry in 1977, I am a member of The Lodge of Harmony No.298 and Unity Chapter No.298, both of which meet at the Masonic Hall in Rochdale. My proud award of the MBE was granted in the Queen’s 2010 New Years Honours, for Charitable Services.

I am very much intent on sharing ideas and suggestions relevant to all forms of charitable giving and fundraising, in addition to fully supporting the Province, the Districts and our own special Charity, the ELMC.

My personal fundraising background, together with the experience gained as a District Charity Steward, will I am sure be of great benefit in the new office.
I have recently assisted with the formation of a new Fundraising Committee, whose prime aim is to help provide funds to fulfil the objectives of the East Lancashire Masonic Charity. As Chairman I will be ably supported by a number of very experienced Masonic fundraisers, in promoting and encouraging future giving and donations by the Lodges, Chapters and individual Brethren.

Another of my personal objectives will be to encourage more of the Brethren to visit Hewlett Court, our Retirement Home near Bury, to witness the fine facilities and excellent care available to the residents. I also welcome future invites to Lodges / Chapter meetings and any planned Area / District meetings and Presentations in 2016 ( and onwards ! ).

My office as Provincial Grand Charity Steward is also to communicate most effectively with the Brethren and in this context I would therefore request that we all now consider individual membership of the ELMC.

Charity, whether it be the provision of financial assistance to our beneficiaries or support of local non- Masonic Charities and ‘ good causes ‘, is still very much one of the fundamental principles of Freemasonry.  Please do make a renewed and determined effort to fully support our own Masonic Charity in the future.          Thank You.

Finally my personal thanks to the ‘ ELMC Team ‘,  the valued District Charity Stewards and all the Brethren who have wished me well and already given me such a very warm welcome.  Much appreciated.

The more you give, the more you get,   the more you laugh, the less you fret,
The more you do unselfishly,  the more you have abundantly,
The more of everything you share,  the more you’ll always have to spare,
The more you love, the more you’ll find, that life is good and friends are kind,
For only what we give away,  enriches us from day to day.
