The Quarterly Communications from Grand Lodge, included a message from the President of the Board of General Purpose, RW Bro Anthony Wilson, which appeared in Issue 14, July 2005, of MQ. This article adequately covers everything if you read it all.
In conclusion, the Grand Lodge dues have been increased in 2006 to recover a representative portion of the additional costs of maintaining Freemasons' Hall (which also includes removal of asbestos). This is not a one off payment, or part 1 of a 2 year payment, this is an increase in Grand Lodge Annual Dues with effect from 2006. The Quarterly Communication of 8th June 2005, item 6 states: The Board “hopes that further increases in 2007 will not exceed an amount in line with inflation”.
