ME Grand Superintendent's visit to Unanimity Chapter

"A Story of Royal Arch Success"

Tuesday 12th October saw the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent visiting Unanimity Chapter, No. 4130, at Audenshaw, accompanied by a small Deputation
comprising EComps Wesley Marchant (ProvGDC), Edwin Cheadle (AProvGP), Norman Clarke (AProvGP / Chapter DC), Stuart Hughes (AProvGP) and Henri Lyons (ProvDepGDC).

Jack Price had been looking forward to this visit for some time - partly to share some time with the Chapter's Companions (and especially one of its members -
EComp David Thompson, Chairman of the Festival Appeal Committee), and partly to personally congratulate the Chapter on its continued success:

The Chapter had moved from Bridge Street some years ago, in the hope of preventing closure through falling numbers - unfortunately one of the prime movers had died, as had one or two more and others had left. As a consequence the numbers declined drastically.

The meeting in October 2007 was attended by only 4 of the 6 members [1 lived in Switzerland], along with a small number of guests. The dining was soup and sandwiches at a cost of £5 - £10 per head. It was at this meeting that EComp Thompson, then Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals, had suggested to them to give a Notion of Motion to close the Chapter - which would then happen before their next Installation and thus save some costs.

Following this meeting, Companion Thompson had spoken to a number of Companions and arranged another meeting on 17th December, when 16 potential joining members signed up, were formally proposed in March 2008 and became full members in October 2008. This was an historic meeting, attended also by the Deputy Grand Superintendent, EComp Allan Bennion, when the Chapter, now meeting at Audenshaw twice per year at lunchtime, agreed to simplify the Ritual but maintain high quality Ritual and enjoy a good standard of dining. This all took place with the hope that more Companions would learn about the existence of the Chapter and be encouraged to join!

This of course happened, and the Chapter now has 28 members with 2 more joining in October 2010 and 1 more in March 2011, which makes it one of the largest Chapters in Audenshaw, if not THE largest, with Aldwyn Chapter being a close rival.

So, back to today. The Chapter was Opened and after initial business the MEGSupt was welcomed to the Chapter, returning the Sceptre to the First Principal, EComp Harry Rogers, and wishing him and his team well. In return EComp Rogers had a pleasant duty to perform - handing over a nice cheque from the Chapter for the RMBI 2015 Festival, which EComp Thompson soon got hold of and secreted about his person :-).

A really excellent Installation Ritual was then worked. The Ritual was shared well amongst many of the Companions and relaxing, warming, musical harmony was provided by EComp Dennis H Roscoe, who only joined the Chapter today. After the Installation of the First and Second Principals (Leslie Taylor and William Cavanagh - both Past First Principals), EComp William Cavanagh (below) Installed the new Third Principal, Comp Paul Kenny, in an exemplary fashion, much to the pleasure of the MEGSupt and other visitors.

A magnificent afternoon - almost certainly enjoyed by everybody.

The MEGSupt, Jack Price, congratulated the Chapter on a most enjoyable meeting commenting that, "This is a fine Chapter, at one time foundering, but look at it now. You must all be very proud; indeed I am proud for you". He then wished the Chapter well for the future before telling the First Principal that he could count on his attendance at the Festive Board!

At the Festive Board - splendid food accompanied by fine wine - the Companions were most pleased to learn of the MEGSupt's continued good health. Jack Price, in response to the relevant toasts, described how we meet together and share life's experiences with each other, work together for the benefit of mankind, all trying to contribute to the well being of the world outside as we go about our everyday lives.

He also referred to the RMBI 2015 Festival, noting that the RMBI functions with a circa £10,000 per day shortfall, that Freemasons, mainly during the various Festivals, endeavour to meet. "Charity 'begins at home' - therefore support this special charity of ours, so that in 2015, this fine Province, East Lancashire, can give over a worthy sum, with love and commitment". He then thanked the Companions for the warmth of their welcome.
