The Lodge Mentor (Continued)
The Lodge Mentor's role defined . . .
- To advise, help and support the Lodge to take initiatives to attract new members
- Facilitating the organisation of Open Nights, Social Events etc.
- Attending other Lodges' open nights to identify new approaches
- Maintaining contact with the District Team on the availability of speculative candidates seeking a Lodge to join
- Meeting potential candidates of other members who do not have access to a seconder
- To provide guidance and support for Initiates
- Before Initiation
- At (or before) interview and at each step on the way to a prospective candidate becoming a member
- After Initiation
- Issue/explain the first part of the Initiates Guidance Notes
- Between Degree Ceremonies and beyond
- Issue/explain the second and third parts of the Initiates Guidance Notes
- To encourage and facilitate visits between Lodges (for ceremonies and social activities)
- Identify degree ceremonies and other Lodge events of interest (e.g. lectures) elsewhere in the local area
- Accompany newly initiated, passed and raised candidates on visits to other Lodges
- Explain protocol for 'proving' and bringing greetings
- To encourage all members to attend Lodge meetings and pro-actively liaise with members who are considering resignation or have communicated their intention to resign
- Make a phone call or visit if 2 or more meetings are missed
- Ensure copies of minutes and/or newsletters are sent out with the summons to keep wavering members involved and informed
- Publicise social events
- Investigate (tactfully!) potential or actual resignations
- To maintain communication between the Lodge and 'lost' members, with a view to their eventual retrieval
- Arrange for copies of minutes/newsletter to be sent
- Publicise social events
- Make periodic phone calls or visits to keep in contact
- Send a copy of the summons (esp. Installation meetings)
- To communicate with the District Team and other Lodge Mentors:
- To share good practice
- To discuss and resolve common problems
- To identify issues that need the attention of District
