Interface With The Lodge Almoner & District Charity Steward

Interface with the Lodge Almoner

Lodge and Chapter Charity Stewards and Almoners have a common aim and responsibility of providing relief.

The Charity Steward collects donations and the Almoner is responsible for identifying the need and, in most cases, for the dispersal of funds to the needy within the Lodge or Chapter.

The duties of the Lodge and Chapter Almoner are detailed in the Almoners Handbook.

It is the responsibility of the Charity Steward to support the Almoner concerning the various Masonic charities, their role, and how they can be of assistance in any specific case and how to obtain that assistance.

All petitions for relief from the East Lancashire Masonic Charity must be prepared and submitted to the East Lancashire Masonic Charity Welfare Officer for consideration by the Benevolence Committee.

The Charity Steward will also provide Lodge and Chapter charity funds in order to help the Almoner fulfil their duties, e.g. taking a gift to a sick member or flowers to a widow, etc.

Interface with the District Charity Steward

The Charity Steward will need to develop and maintain a close liaison with the District Charity Steward. The key responsibilities are as follows:

  • To attend District Charity Stewards meetings, training events, one to one meetings and workshops and to share experiences, views, ideas and best practises.
  • To inform the District Charity Steward and the District Deputy Chairmen/Almoner of any local charities or community activities that may qualify for support from the Community Fund. The beneficiaries must be registered charities within East Lancashire .
  • To advise members of any District or Provincial community project that may require their charitable support, whether this is time and/or money.
  • Informing the District Charity Steward of funds donated to charities and community activities undertaken by the Lodge or Chapter
  • To seek the advice, support or assistance from the District Charity Steward as the need arises.
