On Friday 8 February 2008 Sally Naden and Carole Turner hosted the live weekday “Ladies who lunch” programme on Radio Lancashire between 11-00 and 13-00. They were joined by the “Men Friday” Eric Knowles from the Antiques Road Show and a certain Assistant Provincial Grand Master from the Province of East Lancashire Jim Sutcliffe . The theatre audience of thirty plus was principally made up of freemasons and their wives from Burnley & Pendle, Rossendale, Accrington and Blackburn Districts.
The programme is based around topical items and included discussions about ladies handbags, crying, Valentine's Day, musicals, football including Premiership games being held abroad. As you might guess Jim Sutcliffe was knowledgeable on ladies handbags but less so on Premiership football.
Jim was introduced by Sally Naden who read the words of Rt WBro Paul James Ernest Rink OBE Provincial Grand Master – “Freemasons a band of men with a belief in a Supreme Being, endeavouring to lead their lives through a strong moral code, deriving pleasure from the fellowships they enjoy together and caring for each other and their fellow human beings – and being respected in the wider world for doing just that”. This was a perfect introduction.
What did he say?
Sally Naden and Carole Turner lead the discussion on freemasonry where the symbolism of freemasonry was explained, the so called secrets, lady freemasons and the chance to repeat that we make good men better.

To complement the programme an exhibition of Masonic regalia & artefacts and a display of our involvement in the community was on show in the foyer of Radio Lancashire. Eric Knowles was particularly interested in the older aprons and jewels. The exhibition was arranged and hosted by WBro Ivan Eastwood the Provincial Museum Curator. Ivan was pleased to hear from some of the visitors that they thought it time that they rejoined freemasonry. Lodge Mentors start making contact with those who have resigned!
