The Freemasons' Grand Charity

Grand Charity Grant supports The Place2Be in Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale

It was back to his old stamping ground and ‘back to school’ for WBro Jim Sutcliffe when he visited St. James’s C of E Primary School in Burnley on 23rd March with members of the District team and Lodge Charity Stewards to present the third instalment of a £75,000 grant from the Freemason’s Grand Charity to The Place2Be.

The Place2Be is a charity working inside schools to improve the emotional well-being of children, their families and the whole school community. The organisation itself was created in 1994 in response to the behavioural difficulties found in classrooms and playgrounds. The charity found that by giving youngsters the time to explore their difficulties through discussion, play and work they were more able to cope with their lives and make better decisions which could  have major impacts on their mental health in later life. Happier children find it easier to learn, so their chances of a better education are improved.

The Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Hub was launched in 2008 in six schools:

Cherry Fold Community Primary School, Haslingden Primary School, Reedley Community Primary School, Rosewood Community Primary School, St Mary’s RC Primary School and St Peter’s C of E Primary School.

The Burnley Hub has one Manager, six School Project Managers (SPMs), and 15 Place2Be Counsellors (who volunteer their time in the schools for a minimum of one day a week).
The Place2Be is currently working in 155 schools across the UK with services available to 51,000 children.
