East Lancashire Hospice Presentation

Brethren from the Accrington District and the Blackburn and Darwen District presented a cheque for £2850 to the East Lancashire Hospice this week. £2500 of which has come from the Freemasons Grand Charity. The total amount given to Hospices through the Freemasons Grand Charity Hospice Programme over the past 24years is now over £8 million. WBro Roger Flitcroft PProvJGW, Accrington District Chairman and WBro Paul Aspinall PProvJGW, Blackburn and Darwen District Chairman, took great pleasure in presenting the cheque to the day care patients of the Hospice.
The donation was further bolstered by £350 from the Blackburn and Darwen District, as it was their turn to present the half yearly donation towards the patients drinks trolley, following Accrington Districts  presentation of £350 in May of this year.

District Charity Stewards Assist the East Lancashire Hospice

In late November, and over two consecutive weekends,  the Accrington District Charity Stewards and Brethren from the District, assisted East Lancashire Hospice at their two Christmas Fayres. 
The Brethren helped in loading vehicles, transporting the Fayre stock and setting up and unloading at both the Blackburn and Clitheroe Venues. They were also on hand to gratefully accept the entrance fees from all who came and supported the events.
The Brethren who gave up their time to support the event were Raymond Tattersall (District Charity Steward), Nick Bellas, Duncan Holmes, Fred Holden (DORA), Brian Derbyshire, Andy Shaw, Roger Flitcroft (District Chairman) and Dave McGurty.
The events raised over £4000 for the Hospice. Denise Gee from the Hospice fund raising department has thanked the Brethren of the District for their hard work and continued support of this essential local cause.

Annual Christmas Carol Service

On Sunday the 5th December the Accrington & District Freemasons held their annual Family Carol Service at Holy Trinity Church New Lane Oswaldtwistle. This year we were joined by brethren from the Blackburn District and also members of the Mark Degree, with over 90 people attending the service.

WBro R W Flitcroft the Accrington District Chairman introduced WBro Derek Nelson Thornhill JP   APGM who welcomed everyone and hoped that they would enjoy the Lessons and Carols and invited everyone to enjoy the refreshments of tea, coffee and mince pies following the service which were provided by the church. 

The lessons were read by members of the Accrington & Clitheroe District Fellowships, the choir was arranged by Mrs Barbara Gee and the organist was WBro Stephen Watson.
After each Lesson the District Chairman introduced the carols.

Bro the Rev Don Johnson was asked to lead the closing prayers. The District Chairman then thanked all present for attending and wished each and everyone best wishes for the festive season.

A collection was made amounting to £178 which was given to the Church.

Cheque presented to The Soldiers Support Group

The Accrington District Charity Stewards presented The Soldiers Support Group with a cheque for £1000.00 on Saturday the 4th of September.

The presentation was made by WBro Raymond Tattersall, Chairman of the Accrington District Charity Stewards and District Charity Steward at a 1940's themed event day at Darwen Town Centre and was opened by WBro David Baldwin of Bank Terrace Lodge No.462. WBro Baldwin currently has three sons on active duty in Afghanistan. Youngest son Matthew, a Royal Marine in 40 Commando based in Sangin, has just joined his two brothers in the war-torn country. Phillip, is with the Duke of Lancaster’s 2nd Battalion and Daniel is a Telecom and IT technician based in Kandahar with the RAF.

The event purpose was to send the troops of the Duke of Lancaster Regiment Christmas packages. The event also had the support of HRH The Prince of Wales and a letter was read out from Clarence House.

Accrington District Charity Stewards Summer BBQ Draw 2010

One hundred and eleven guests made up of Accrington District Brethren and their friends and family, supported the Accrington District Charity Stewards Barbecue this year at Mill House Masonic Hall, Clayton Le Moors.

The annual event stayed warm and dry for a wonderful evening where 44 prizes were drawn on the night.

The event has raised £1,176.00 for local community causes, distributed through the Charity Stewards for the District.

Sincere thanks goes out to all who bought raffle tickets, donated prizes and helped with the evenings organisation.


Cheques for the Hospice

WBro Raymond Tattersall, Chairman of the Accrington & District Charity Stewards, presenting two cheques to the Patients and Staff: One for £350 for the Drinks trolley for the patients and another cheque for £650 to the Hospice.

 


 


Hyndburn & District Age Concern receive £500

This donation from Accrington & District Charity Stewards is to help towards a new drop in centre in Accrington.
