A MAN ON A MISSION A Profile of David Geldard PProvJGW, ProvGChStwd a member of Liberty Lodge No 5573
David Geldard is the Provincial Grand Charity Steward for the Province of East Lancashire and thoroughly enjoys this post. He is also an Ex-Officio Board member of the East Lancashire Masonic Charity. David retired from teaching with thirty years as an education officer in the prison service and a spell as a college faculty director. David developed severe angina in 1994 and had a six-way coronary artery bypass graft in 1995. Turning to cycling during cardiac rehabilitation he undertook two overseas fund-raising rides of Israel and Jordan and nearer to home London to Brighton, all in aid of the British heart Foundation. He has also cycled in Europe, India, USA, Indo China and South Africa with the Cycling Touring Club as well as many tours with his own club. Having felt so much better after his surgery he wanted to put something back into the system and in 1995 was invited to represent patient interests on the ASA Cardiac Task Force. Since then he has served in various positions with the Heart Care Foundation UK, British Heart Foundation, Department of Health, Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cardiac Board, Royal College of Physicians, Bury & Rochdale Health Authority, MINAP, NIHCE, SUBSTRANS, Cardiac Rehabilitation and several Others. This is a Brother who gives his time and effort for the sake of others and deserves the recognition of his fellow masons for his outstanding contribution to the community.
