Tale of a 1000 Teddies

The Children's department at Burnley's General Hospital Urgent Care Centre receive another batch of Teddy Bears from Burnley and Pendle District Freemasons. This brings the total to over 1000 teddies that have been distributed to injured or poorly children visiting the department.

The project called TLC (Tender Loving Care) Bears commenced over 12 months ago and is intended to bring comfort to a child in a strange hospital environment and reduce their fears whilst attending the department. They are then eagerly adopted and taken home.

Local charities receive over £9,000 at Burnley & Pendle District's third Charity Giving Day

15 local charities from the Burnley & Pendle District received £9,953.00 at the recent district charity giving day. Each charity representative attending the Masonic Hall Nelson Square Burnley on the Saturday morning 17th May were received by charity stewards and brethren from the district. Nelson House provided the welcome refreshments in the form of fresh tea and coffee.

David Biggs, the District Chairman accompanied by Graham Smith the District Charity Steward presented the cheques from the district community fund and invited the recipients to say a few words on the organisation they represented. What came across from all of those receiving cheques on the day was what a big difference our charity donations would make to their efforts. From assisting in the purchase of a central heating boiler to financing outdoor pursuit activities, art programmes, musical tours, assisting disadvantaged kids and even supporting breast cancer services via the Mayor of Burnley's charity. It was a pleasure to be in attendance to hear what a difference our charity donations would make.

If you are aware of any worthy local charity or organisations that could benefit from the district community fund then have a word with your lodge charity steward.
