Giving Evening 2008

Nearly £24,000 was distributed to Bolton charities and good causes at the second Giving Evening held by Bolton and Farnworth Freemasons on Tuesday 29th April 2008.

The event which was held at the Masonic Hall in Bolton was attended by over 180 Charity Representatives, Freemasons, and friends.

£17,431 was donated by members of Bolton and Farnworth Lodges and Chapters to 33 charities and good causes.

A total of £6100 was donated to four charities from the Community Fund of the East Lancahsire Masonic Charity where one third of monies given by Freemasons throughout the Province of East Lancashire goes to charities and good causes throughout the Province.

After receiving their donation each charity was invited to say a few words about the work the do and this year again provided a most interesting and thought provoking insight into the important and valuable work carried out by these local charities.

There were two highlights during the evening in addition to the donations. The first came after Birtenshaw Hall received a donation. Aaron Halleron a young man with severe disabilities who is wheelchair bound and unable to speak and who is cared for by the staff at the hall warmed the hearts of the audience by his infective nature and good humour and through the aid of his voice box was able to thank the Freemasons for their kind donation.    

The second highlight came halfway through the evening when Catherine a young lady from the Bolton Lads and girls Club sang a song. This was her second appearance at our giving night and this year performed a quite difficult song extremely well and was greatly appreciated by the audience.

The evening was attended by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master for Bolton and Bury Philip Mountford who presented the cheques from the East Lancashire Community Fund and the Mayor of Bolton Councillor Barbara Ronson who received a donation from the District Chairman Ian Thornton towards her chosen charity the North West Air Ambulance.
